Pros: Large amounts of data, extremely useable interface, excellent price

Cons: Some functionality is not complete.

Summary:
With the largest pool of data sources and the most flexible interface, MarketVisual stands far above the rest.  The trick is in the way they scan data: any names and relationships are identified through their proprietary software and then loaded into relationship map database.  This means that if Bill Johnson mentions that he graduated from the University of Florida on his company’s website, chances are that relationship will be in MarketVisual.

In terms of flexibility, you can choose to display current, past, direct, and indirect relationships for any of the relationships that exist in their data (source list below).  Additionally, MarketVisual uses a pay-per-map basis so you can see all connections to a selected entity or individual before buying the map - making this solution extremely affordable.

Another feature is the ability map a path between your connections and anyone connected to them up to 3 generations – uncovering new relationships and connections.  Additionally, if you want to map your own database and integrate it with the public data out there, you can do that too, for an additional charge. Don’t worry though, what you enter stays in your account and is not seen by other users, keeping your donor’s information safe.

Finally, once you buy a relationship map, it is saved, never expires, and is yours to keep. The caveat is that if information attached to an entity in the map is updated, you will have to re-generate that portion of the map to make it current.  This pay-as-you-go system as well as the flexibility of the data and the interface has MarketVisual winning the relationship mapping game hands down.

The only temporary drawback is that some of their features are still working out technical difficulties.

More MarketVisual (IntellectSpace) information from their website:

“IntellectSpace Corporation was founded in 2003 by passionate technology experts who saw that professionals lacked the sophisticated qualitative tools required to achieve market clarity through the understanding of ever-changing relationships among participants.
IntellectSpace has built an engine that continually draws on public data to instantly identify and map complex relationships and spheres of influence between organizations and people, and provides a browser-based subscription service that generates visual maps that are navigable, editable, and can include additional, proprietary data sets.

Each unique interactive Knowledge Map reveals key interrelationships and spheres of influence among companies, executives and institutions. Knowledge Maps "connect the dots" by explaining business and personal connections, providing an at-a-glance understanding of complex ties and exposing otherwise unseen interrelationships.”

At www.intellectspace.com, you can download a five page PDF that explains in great detail all of their services, however, their primary strength is two-fold: their focus on data and their flexibility.  In fact, it is very telling how they describe their service not as relationship mapping but relationship mining that helps identify paths to target opportunities.

Again, from their literature:
IntellectSpace continuously mines for relationship data from multiple public, proprietary, and 3rd party sources, and aggregates relationships into a single comprehensive database for effective use to achieve “at-a-glance” market clarity.

IntellectSpace is unique in that it is also the only technology that aggregates over 52 different relationships categories from various sources on a continuous basis.  Relationship Categories include: Board Members, Executives, Company Ownership, Financial Advisor, Analyst Coverage, Employment, Non-Corporate Leadership, Family Relationships, Education,  Organization, Membership.

Data Sources include: Annual Reports (10-K, 10-KSB, 20-F, 40-F), Beneficial Ownership of Securities (Forms 3, 4, 5), 13-D and 13-G Ownership, Registration Statements (S-1, S-2, S-3, S-4, F-1), Proxy Statements (DEF-14A, DEF-14C), Special Events (6-K, 8-K), BusinessWeek.com, SmartMoney, and Proprietary Data Sources, (CRM, Coverage DB, etc).
