Dow Jones Generate g2
26/44 points
Pros: Solid data, ability to monitor real-time company activity.
Cons: Maps are actually text “paths” to connections – only accessible one at a time making it impossible to see large swaths of potential connections, limited data scope (only company data: no schools, organizations, etc.)
Bottom Line: This product will give you great company data that is extremely well integrated with real-time alerts: giving an excellent perspective on the movement of the market. But in terms of visualization, this product falls short.
Summary:
While the interface of Dow Jones’ Generate g2 is impressive (think HEP on steroids), the data is limited to companies only. The visual representation of that data also leaves much to be desired. This product would be good for sales people in a profession that touched on a lot of different commercial sectors and they just needed the best name to contact at a particular company based on current events but exploration of the data is lacking.
From their demo:
“A relationship map can be shown as a series of folders representing people and companies that are nested in each other like file directories. Clicking on a company folder reveals people at the company that you know. Clicking on them leads further to companies and people that they know.”
While relationship maps are definitely about “who you know,” the researcher already has that data through services like WealthEngine’s Inner Circle or iWave’s Social Networking feature. One of the principle values in relationship mapping is finding out who knows who but being able to see the full network without being pigeon holed into only choosing one connection.
