DonorGateway: The Mapping Tool
36/44 points

Pros: Great interface, great value, designed by prospect researchers

Cons: Has only Canadian data, data collection methodology is slow.

Bottom Line: Good product, good value and a home-run for Canadian groups.  For the rest of America, it’s only worth it if you are interested in mapping your own data.

Summary:
For Canadian prospect researchers, this is an excellent tool and very affordable.  The interface is top-notch and it screams prospect research.  If it had U.S. data it would be very competitive, however their methods of data collection, similar to Leadership Directories, is based on human verification and, while highly reliable, limits the number of records they will be able to integrate into their system. Additionally, the technology is not web-based but housed on local servers and updated via regular downloads similar to Windows updates.

From DonorGateway's website:

The Mapping Tool’s first product, the Canadian Nonprofit Director Edition, is the first database to provide a comprehensive, current and accurate visual map of Canada’s nonprofit directors – setting a new standard in the field.

The Canadian Nonprofit Director Edition is an essential, time-saving resource for fundraising executives, development officers, researchers, and fundraising consultants. Anyone involved in prospect research will find it helpful in identifying and recruiting new prospects. It will also provide insight into potential donors’ affinity for a cause, their ability to give, and access routes through which to reach them.

As a new company, they are definitely ones to watch.

For the time being, given their lack of data, this product is only helpful if you want to map your own data.
