Although relationship mapping definitions vary, for the purposes of prospect research, I believe the best definition of a relationship map is:
"a visual representation of relationships between individuals, organizations, companies, and other entities."
There are two main categories of relationship mapping technology (RMT). The first category maps static data - products like Microsoft's Visio, The Brain, or NodeXL. The second category uses external data to populate its maps. For prospect research, this is the most interesting category because it allows us to find connections between current donors and their peers extremely quickly and save hours of research time.
